Helping Students Help The Homeless

Berridge Donates Materials For Student-Built Tiny Homes In Denver, CO

Here at Berridge Manufacturing, we stand for more than just roofing and trim. We understand the value of contributing back to our community, and we’re proud to make Denver a better place to live and work. Read more about the opportunity we were lucky to have: helping local Denver students build homes for the homeless.

Cherry Creek Innovation Campus

The Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) is a high school career preparation campus that trains students for multiple industries, including automotive, aviation, healthcare, IT, manufacturing and construction. Their construction program trains 150 students a year for a career in the skilled trades, and partnerships with companies like Berridge make the student experience that much more fulfilling.

This past April, the program completed its 21st tiny home — a project in partnership with the Colorado Village Collaborative, an organization that helps those in Downtown Denver transition out of homelessness. This project repeats every school year, where students fully complete 5 tiny homes and learn multiple trades along the way, including framing, electrical wiring, insulation, drywall, interior/exterior finishes and the installation of standing seam.

Berridge Gives Back

This year, Berridge donated the standing seam panels and flat sheets for the tiny houses’ trim. Regional Sales Manager David Bessey and Denver Branch Manager Alex Gonzales walked students through Berridge installation details and instructed them on how panels are formed and installed.

“It was great interacting with not only students but also the teachers — and feeling their excitement knowing that so many organizations pitched in to make a vision come true,” said David Bessey.

This experience is incredibly valuable to the Berridge team. Not only do five people receive safe shelter, warmth and a good night’s sleep, but 150 students also receive skilled trades training, solving the skilled trades labor gap one worker at a time.

Berridge is honored to have been part of such a positive project and we look forward to many more opportunities to lend our expertise and materials in service of others.
